ZKS M.A.R.S. (Motivation And Reward System)
Aims of the system are to instil responsibility in the child’s training during their
time studying martial arts. The M.A.R.S. points system is a reward scheme that is
used to assist the instructor, and out of class to assist the parents to reinforce
any values they consider most important. We are hugely aware that on average we
may only see your child a total of 48 hours over period of a year (Novice students).
The system is based not only on their technique, but on their ability to demonstrate
focus and commitment.
Every time a student attends a class they will earn points. Whoever achieves the
most points will be rewarded at the end of the month. At the end of a 3 month unit
they will attend a “Mini grading” to demonstrate what they learnt over the unit.
Depending on how well they demonstrate those elements will depend on the points
they earn. We hope to also incorporate “Challenges” for them to earn extra points
and this is where the parents can help! For example we may have set a task such
as showing self respect by tidying their room. If they continue to achieve these
goals the parents must sign their sheet and hand it in on a set deadline to earn
those extra points. We want to reward them for attending competitions, Sport Warrior
courses, open days and demonstrations, as this shows dedication to their martial
arts.
Our reward system can also work against a student, for instance, if they have forgotten
to bring a piece of equipment or left something behind at class. We can penalise
them and deduct points, this also applies to bad behaviour in class and even at
home, if the parents decide this is appropriate. All students should be aiming for
“Student of the year award” which will entitle them to a prize of a reasonable size
and give them something to aim for. During the year we will have ''student of the
month'', and again we will look to offer a small token of recognition of their achievements.
